I had been to Meerut in my childhood.
We were on way to Hastinapur to visit the Jain pilgrimage centre and temples.
Meerut came on the way, before Mawana.
I thought Meerut was a beautiful city as we passed through the Meerut Cantonment area.

Meerut was also called Mayrashtra and over a period of time it became Meerut.
Meerut was also known for the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.

We visited Meerut again.
We saw the Meerut city as it was.

The old small bus stand.
The Hapur bus adda.
The Nauchandi ground.

The Meerut University(now called Choudhary Charan Singh University or CCS University).
The new developing Shastri Nagar.

The well developed colony Saket.

The Civil Lines with officers bungalows and quarters.

The Meerut stadium.

The road going to Modipuram and the Modi Rubber factory with Pallavpuram coming up in front.
The Begum Bridge and  famous "chaat" at Abu Lane.

The muslim touch.

The Jain Nagar and Baraut road.

There were roads going in different directions from Meerut to Modi Nagar,Murad Nagar,Ghaziabad,Mohan Nagar,Sahibabad,Indirapuram,Kaushambi and Delhi to the south; road going to Hapur; road going to Garh Mukteshwar which went on to Gajraula,Moradabad,Rampur;road going to Parikshitgarh;road going to Mawana,Hastinapur,Behsuma,Ramraj,Miranpur,Jansath,Muzaffarnagar and also going to Bijnor from Miranpur.

Road going to Modipuram,Pallavpuram,Sardhana,Daurala,Khatauli,Muzaffarnagar,Roorkee,Haridwar,Rishikesh,Dehradun.
Road going to Rohta,Barnawa,Binauli,Baraut.
Road going to Baghpat.

There is a big cantonment and  it is understood that there is a good golf course too.

It was in Meerut that we experienced the fear and terror of the riots, around the office and the residential areas . And on the road.

Father wanted to settle down in Meerut but after the unrests dropped the idea.

It was in Meerut that  first we experienced an attempt of burglary and then later had the taste of a terrifying burglary. Nothing was ever recovered.

Meerut hardly left any pleasant memories except for my good performance in a cricket match (even here my pant tore from the back at the stitches, during fielding causing me a lot of embarassment)and some good food and good time with friends and relatives.
